For those who don't speak Czech, it means "family and food...my two favorite things". Nothing makes me happier then both, especially at the same time! We spent saturday evening in West, TX just 15 minutes from my parent's house.
Me being the history nerd I am, I Googled West before we went. For those who care, Czech immigrants came to West in the late 1800's and brought much of their European culture with them, especially when it came to farming and running businesses. It was also their culture to have large families which is why the Czech culture became so dominate in West. Obviously there is much more history to West and the Czech heritage, but it's currently all I can remember.
We went down to their tiny town center area and ate at Nors Sausage and Burger House. Great food and atmosphere! AND you can BYOB, or enjoy their extremely cheap beers on tap. If you like kraut, this is the place to go. Notice I said kraut, not sourkraut. Apparently there is a difference in the Czech version that makes it more sweet and not sour. No surprise I despise kraut, so I opted for the jalepeno cheddar sausage on a hoagie. I wish I could remember the exact redneck terminology my dad used to describe his burger, but basically he had juice running down his arms. It looked amazing! My mom loved the philly and Rob chowed down on his traditional kraut dog. We will definitley be back! Unfortunatley, Harleigh was pretty sick so I spent the later part of my meal outside being puked on. Ahhh mommyhood....
