Week 2

Success! Again! 2 more pounds GONE...
So not as much weight as last week but I did indulge while I was Austin this past weekend. The culprits were chips and hot sauce. They get me every time! Blocking that from my memory, I'm still sticking to clean eating and thankfully it keeps getting easier to work into our hectic life.

Back to Austin, we had a blast! Dan was blown away by 6th Street. I guess it's one of those things you hear about but never really know how extreme it is until you witness it. One of our priority stops was the Salt Lick, but because of my bad sense of direction we ended up at Stubb's BBQ instead. Not a problem though considering it's just as amazing! Rob left to work on his fantasy football draft (6 hours mind you!) so Cassie, Dan, and myself toured downtown Austin. All of us came home sporting some new leather jewelry we bought off a bum. Later that evening Dan and I went down to the Congress Bridge and patiently waited for the thousands of bats to take flight. Then we all met up for dinner at Lucy's to kick the night off. Thankfully my dear friend Ali who attends UT was able to babysit Harleigh. I miss spending time with my girls Leslie and Cassie so this weekend was great for everyone all around.

Bromance Update

We have thoroughly enjoyed having Dan stay with us. I wish we had more time to do all the fun things this part of Texas has to offer but sadly it's a really busy time right now. The first thing Dan wanted when he arrived was some good ol Texas BBQ. Not the best place for BBQ but we ended up at Dukes Roundhouse where he pigged out on wings and ribs. To top it off, we headed to the store afterwards so Dan could load up on Blue Bell icecream. So sad they don't have it in California! My freezer is full of pint size varieties now...not good timing considering I'm trying to lose weight!

The first weekend Dan was here, he and Rob headed to the ranch to get things ready for the hunters, AKA a guy's weekend, with no crying babies or nagging girlfriends. My cousin Nolan, our friend Jason and his dad joined so I know they had a great time. While they were "working" I had a girl's weekend with my two favorite little girls. We played at the Dallas Zoo and then splashed around in the pool a little.

I was able to snag the guys a great deal on groupon for the all you can eat deck at the Rangers game. Unfortunately the Rangers lost but the guys were happy because they were able to eat their ballpark food hearts out. And Dan got his first glance of Cowboys Stadium..something you can't fathom until you see it in person!

This weekend we head to Austin for some fun with my girlfriends Cassi and Leslie. God only knows what the next blog will bring... ;)

Week 1

Success!

So proud to announce that in my first week of dieting I lost 8 pounds! And what's even more exciting is that it was super easy! I was really worried about giving in to temptations and cravings but I woke up last Monday disgusted by the thought of the things I loved just the day before. Not sure how that happened but it could be do to the fact that the night before I started my diet I literally prayed every chance I had that I wouldn't give in. Hopefully it stays this way so I can get the rest of this baby weight off! Cheers to another week of clean eating :)

Welcome to Dallas

The only reason I'm sharing this is because I need questions answered, and I don't want what I went through to happen to anybody else. My life was put in danger at the hands of the people who are supposed to protect us. I in no way intend to label all officers this way, I have a lot of respect for police officers and the job they do.

I left work at 4:00 and before my car even had time to cool off, my vehicle stalled at a busy intersection. I called the police to see if they could dispatch an officer. After 20 minutes of being honked at and flipped off, there was still no officer. I called again and they informed me that no officers had been dispatched yet. My car was completely dead and I couldn't even roll the window down. I believe the temperature outside was 102 degrees that day. I called a wrecker service and also a coworker to come get me. About 20 minutes later the coworker arrived at the same time the police officer did. I got out of my car and proceeded to get in hers when the officer came over his speaker and forcefully commanded that I could not leave a stalled vehicle unattended and that I needed to get back in my car. He also told my coworker to get in her car and keep moving. This whole time he never once got out of his vehicle. A few minutes later another officer showed up, and after they talked for a while the original officer walked past my window and said they were going to push me out of the way. I told him I was feeling dizzy and sick to my stomach but he ignored my plea and told me I would have to steer my car out of the way. At this time I was very out of it and upset; I couldn't process the steps needed to put my car in neutral and when they started pushing me I was going into oncoming traffic instead of to the side road...at which time they started pounding on my trunk and yelling at me to turn (understandable). What hurt was looking in my rear view mirror and seeing them laugh at me. They gave me one final push and the original officer walked by my window again and I pleaded one last time that I was not feeling well.

And that's the last thing I remember.

I woke up to paramedics trying to wake me and ask me simple questions that I was not able to answer. My coworker says once they pushed me off the road the original officer just got in his car and left, and that she was the one that helped me get my car parked and transferred to her car. She said she had the a/c blowing high on me and that I began to hyperventilate, followed by shallow breathing, and then followed by becoming unresponsive. I still don't know who the other man she speaks of was, but she said the two of them searched for a pulse and tried shaking me. That's when they called the paramedics.

I'm really in awe that this happened. I've had nightmares the past two nights of me being in situations where I'm pleading for help and nobody will help me. I drive past the intersection and suddenly I become an emotional wreck. The emotional effects are way worse than the physical. Currently I'm still battling a horrible headache, delayed motor skills, and blurry vision in one eye. The inside of my mouth is also chewed to shreds, which I guess happened while I was convulsing before I passed out.

I have no interest in getting anybody in trouble but I also don't want it to happen to anybody else. I want to know why it happened. I am a very headstrong person and have no reserve about telling somebody to fuck off but for some reason in this situation, even though I knew it was dangerous and that it was wrong, I felt intimidated by this cop and listened to his orders.

I'm looking for advice in this situation. What should I do? Anything? If your reading this and have feedback, please feel free to comment here, on facebook, or email me at megcook20@gmail.com. I'm specifically looking for feedback from other police officers or those who are in that line of work. I promise to keep everything confidential, unless posted publicly. Thanks so much in advance.

Welcome Back

Ohhh how I've missed having time to blog! I still won't be up and fully running until our internet is connected but thought I'd squeeze in a quick note from my cubicle since my Mema keeps reminding me of my lack of updating. I taught her how to access my blog from her iPhone... cute huh?

We FINALLY got moved into our new apartment. Honestly, it's very surreal. After being "home"less for almost a year I still have to remind myself we actually have our own place now. We have mostly everything put up except for the girl's room.

Rob and I are still loving both our jobs. What a breath of fresh air to come home to each other without being stressed due to work! After working for what I would almost consider the anti-christ, I am very, very grateful still to have this opportunity. I love that I can finally wake up saying I "get" to go to work instead of I "have" to go to work.

Now that everything has settled down a tadbit, I decided it's finally time to get this baby weight off! I'm the heaviest I've ever been and that's pretty hard to swallow. After having Kenzie, my heaviest was 182 and after having Harleigh I've racked up the pounds to 186! Thankfully I have the mentality to know I can get back down to 140 again...it just took getting past fast food/hotel living to really believe it was possible. So with that said, today I re-started my clean eating habits. I thought today would be a lot tougher but it really was a nice change of pace from the greasy fat and sugary drinks I've been packing in my body. Hopefully I can give some successful updates in the near future!! Now that I feel I've created some kind of accountability by posting my weight loss goals on my blog that only my grandmother reads, I will still update weekly on my progress. Cheers to burning my fat pants in the near future! Poor Rob is probably going to have to deal with my crabbiness until I get past the withdrawals but thankfully his childhood friend Dan will be here Wednesday to give him an outlet for his frustrations. Dan will be here for almost two weeks...we are so excited to have him and have lots of fun adventures planned so stay tuned for that as well.

If you're reading this I hope you have a great week...I know I will :)

Home is where the heart is

I've been meaning to post this since Sunday but things have been pretty hectic...I'll get to that at the end of this post. We had a great time last weekend with family and friends in Comanche and Early. Our favorites Barbara and James came by Mema's for a visit. I just love them!! Later that afternoon we got to celebrate a very special birthday girl. Adalyn's first birthday was a hot one but lots of fun and super cute. Afterwards we stopped by our friends Jody and Paula's...which ended up turning into a sleepover. I love that our girls are the same age and can grow up playing together! I was sad to leave but excited for the week in store. Excited because Rob and I found an apartment! Even better, we found our first HOME. Move in is August 10th and we are counting down the hours!

It doesn't take long for Kenzie to take advantage of the adults leaving the room :)

Manny's

In an attempt to remember good food outings in Dallas, I figured I'd document here. Tonight we had dinner with Rob's college friend David, aka D-Ray and his girlfriend Kristen who is visiting from Philladelphia. We ate at Manny's on Midway. Great Mexican food! Especially my shrimp tacos paired with a side (or two) of Dos Equis. Happy Friday!
